One Tree Hill summit project

This is an interesting site about the history of One Tree Hill in Auckland. I was outraged when Maori activists chopped down the tree, which was dear to my heart (and that of many Aucklanders).

Reading this article, I find that 150 years earlier, a bunch of Pakeha labourers chopped down the lone totara on the site - a tree sacred to Maori.

Well, well, well! Things are not always what they seem. I now feel much more philosophical about the demise of the modern lone pine.
